Saving Animals & Finding Homes

Our History

The Leek Home for Strays was first registered as a charitable status in 1995 by Pat Wood. Prior to this it ran as a private charity. Pat Wood sadly passed away in May 2017 but we continue to operate as a charity and aim to support and help animals in distress, primarily cats but not exclusively so.

My name is Nicola Pierzchalla (formally Nicola Gilman) and as the Executor to Pat’s will I have taken on the lead for the Leek Home for Strays. However it is the many volunteers and supporters who allow me to carry on the work which Pat, and prior to her Peggy Sigley, started.

I have worked with Pat Wood since I was in school.

We continue to help people with their own animals, work alongside other agencies and to find new homes for those animals who find themselves without a home. We also give support for neutering through the Leek Vets on Broad Street in Leek.

This is the first cat we rescued after the sad passing of Pat Wood. We called him Wesley. He arrived in a poor state but was nursed back to health with the help of Ralf Konen M.R.C.V.S. at the Leek Veterinary Clinic.
